Butterfly:

The next post under the label 'Make It With Beads' is making a cute and small butterfly. I always like butterflies which have different designs in the wings. Butterflies brings happiness with their colourful wings and they teach us a lot with their lifecycle. I was trying to make a butterfly with beads on my own without any model. So, I made it first without any designs in the wings and mixing colours. This can be used as a keychain or stick a safety pin and use it as a brooch. Now let us check out the method to make the beautiful beaded butterfly with little designs in the middle of the wings.

Materials Needed:

Beads : 2mm (Black, Ivory and Pink colours)
String / Wire : 0.3mm / 0.4 mm
Needle : Suitable for the beads and the string
Scissors

Method:

Take the desired length of string and make a knot at one end and insert the needle at the other end.
This beaded butterfly has three parts which are the central body, wings and the antenna.
I am starting the butterfly from the central body with black colour beads.
Take 4 black beads in the string and insert the needle again into the first bead in the opposite direction. This forms the first 4 beaded structure.
Then we have to make 4 beaded structures vertically. Take 3 beads and insert into the bead from the previous 4 beaded structure.
Then take 2 beads and insert into the next bead from the first 4 beaded structure.
And again take 2 beads and then take 1 bead to make 4 sets of 4 beaded structure vertically. This forms one whole 4 beaded structures.

Follow the same steps until there are 7 whole sets of 4 beaded structures.

Among the 7 whole sets of 4 beaded structure, leave 1 set and start working in other 6 sets to make the wings.
From the black bead in the 4 beaded structure set, start from one bead.
Take 3 ivory colour beads and insert the needle back into the black bead to form the 4 beaded structure.
Then take 2 ivory beads and insert the needle into the side ivory bead and bottom black bead to make the next 4 beaded structure.
Repeat the same steps until we make 4 beaded structures in all the six black sets of 4 beaded structures.

This is the first column which has 6 sets of ivory colour 4 beaded structures.
Then we move on tho the second column which has 8 sets of 4 beaded structures.
We make 6 sets on the previous column and one on the top and one at the bottom.
In the second column we include 8 pink beads. 4 pink beads on top wing and 4 at the bottom wing.
First on the top ivory bead, take 3 beads such as one pink, one ivory, one pink bead and insert needle into the first base ivory bead.
Then move onto the side pink bead and take 2 ivory beads and 1 pink bead to make next 4 beaded structure.
Bring the string back to other side pink bead of the first 4 beaded structure and take one ivory and one pink bead to make the third set of 4 beaded structure.
Then for the next two base beads, take 2 ivory beads for each to make the 2 sets of 4 beaded structure.
And for the next 3 base ivory beads include pink beads same as for the other side of the wing to make 3 sets of 4 beaded structures.

Next is the third column which has 10 sets of 4 beaded structures. This is also similar to that of the second column. Make 8 sets on the second column and one extra set of 4 beaded structure each on top side and another at the bottom side.
In the pink bead of the first set of 4 beaded structure, take 3 beads (2 ivory and 1 pink) and insert the needle back into the pink bead.
In the newly formed 4 beaded structure, there will be a pink bead at the side. Take 3 beads (1 pink and 2 ivory) to form the extra 4 beaded structure.
Then continue making the 4 beaded structures on the other side of the first formed 4 beaded structure.
Take 2 ivory beads for the third and 2 pink beads for the fourth.
2 ivory beads for the fifth and 1 pink & 1 ivory bead for the sixth set.
Similar to the top wing, take ivory and pink beads t make the 4 beaded structures.

Then we move on to the fourth column which has 8 sets of 4 beaded structures. These are not like the second column which had 8 sets continuously.
This fourth column 8 sets of 4 beaded structures are made as 4 sets on the top using and 4 sets at the bottom wing leaving 2 ivory beads in the middle.
This also has 8 pink beads in such a way 4 beads in the top and 4 at the bottom.
All other process of making 4 beaded structures remains the same taking 3 beads at the beginning and 2 beads to continue.

Then move onto the fifth column which has 6 sets of 4 beaded structures.
The 6 sets of 4 beaded structures are made in two sets separately with one on the top and the at the bottom wing.
There will be 4 sets in the previous column. Among the 4 sets, leave out one set at the outer end and make 3 sets of 4 beaded structures.
Similarly, at the bottom wing, leave out one set at the end and make 3 sets of 4 beaded structures in the inner side.

Now one of the wings has been made. Let us start making the other wing.
The other side wing is the same as that of the previous wing made.
Start by leaving one set of black 4 beaded structure and make the first column with 6 sets of 4 beaded structures with ivory beads.
Then the second column with 8 sets of 4 beaded structures with pink beads included in-between.
The third column has 10 sets of 4 beaded structures continuously.
The fourth column has again 8 sets of 4 beaded structures which is made only at the ends leaving 2 sets in the middle.
The fifth column has 6 sets of 4 beaded structures split as 3 sets on the top and other 3 sets at the bottom wings.

Once the wings are made completely, insert the needle into all the beads at the outer layer and tighten the string. This gives the wings a nice folded shape.
Then let us start making the antenna of the butterfly. Bring the string to the top black beads which we left without working at first.
At one side of the top black 4 beaded structure, take 3 ivory beads and 2 pink beads.
Insert the needle into the first pink bead to make the antenna bend at the edge.
Again bring the string into the ivory beads and to the black bead at the other side.

Do the same steps as for the previous antenna made. Take 5 beads (3 ivory colour beads and 2 pink colour beads) and insert the needle into the first pink bead.
Make knot by inserting the string into the adjacent beads and insert the remaining string into the beads randomly to ensure a tight knot. Then cut off the excess string.
Beautiful, beaded butterfly is ready 😊
