Anyone Can Crochet - Easy Dishcloth

 Anyone Can Crochet:

Single Crochet Project:

Easy Dishcloth:

There are many projects which can be done using single crochet. Making a dishcloth with single crochet is the easiest one. Dishcloth is nothing but a normal cloth which we use inner kitchen. This can also be altered slightly and can be used a small decorative mat under the flower vase. The size of the dishcloth can be altered according to our need and wish. I am here making a normal size with a border. The same can also be done with different stitches like double crochet, half double crochet and even triple crochet. In the making of this easy dishcloth with single crochet, you can also learn how to change from one yarn colour to another yarn which is also a simple basic in crochet.

Materials :

  • Yarn : Favourite colour and model (I am using purple and white colour)
  • Hook : 4.5 mm
  • Yarn Needle
  • Scissors

Method :

  • Take the yarn and the hook.
  • Make a slip knot. To know more about the basics of crochet and single crochet check previous posts or click here.
  • Insert the hook into the slip knot made.
  • Start making chain stitches. The number of chains to be made depends on the size of the dishcloth you are making.
  • I have made 31 chain stitches. You can change it as per your wish.
  • Start making single crochets in the second chain stitch from the hook.
  • We have to make single crochets in all the chain stitches.
  • To make single crochet, insert the hook into the second chain. Grab the yarn in the hook and pull it through the loop.
  • Now there will be 2 loops in the hook.
  • Yarn over in the hook and grab the yarn and pull it through the 2 loops. This is one single crochet.
  • Make single crochets in all the chain stitches until the end of the chain. Make single crochet even in the last chain stitch.
  • Then chain one and turn the entire project.
  • Then repeat making single crochets all the way until the end.
  • Then chain 1 and turn again and continue the single crochets until you get the desired length.
  • I made 30 rows as I made 30 chains, the dishcloth would be square in shape.
  • Once I finish making 30 rows of single crochets, I start making the border for the dishcloth.
  • I am using white colour yarn for the border.

Changing Yarn Colour :

  • Once we reach the last stitch, we would make a slip stitch to end the project.
  • To make a slip stitch, yarn over and pull through completely.
  • But while changing the yarn colour, yarn over and pull only through the stitch.
  • Now the hook has two loops.
  • Take the white yarn, wrap it over the hook and pull through the two loops in the hook. Leave out the purple yarn.
  • The active loop on the hook is with white yarn.
  • Cut out the purple yarn leaving some inches.
  • Make a normal knot with the left out purple yarn and the free end of the white yarn.
  • Then start making the border with the white yarn.
  • Chain 2 stitches. This chaining two is for turning the corner.
  • Turn and make single crochets at the side from the next stitch to the chains made.
  • While making single crochets, tug in the free ends of both the colour yarns, This ensures the ends not getting loosened.
  • Continue making single crochets all the way until we reach the next corner.
  • Once we reach the corner, again chain 2 for the turning.
  • Then continue making single crochets at the other side.
  • Repeat the same steps of making single crochets at the sides and chaining 2 for turning at the corners.
  • When the border is completely made, make slip stitch.
  • To make slip stitch, after the last single crochet, insert the hook into the second chain made previously.
  • Wrap the yarn over the hook and pull completely through the stitches. This is a slip stitch.
  • Then to fasten off is similar to making a chain.
  • First cut out the yarn leaving some inches back.
  • Wrap the yarn over the hook and pull it completely through the active loop on the hooks. Thi makes the end knot.
  • Then weave in the loose ends with a yarn needle randomly into the project.
  • If you wish, you can make a small holder for the dishcloth by leaving extra inches of yarn at the end and making a big loop.
  • This holder can also be made with chains and joined together.
  • Now, easy crocheted dishcloth is made using single crochets 😊.
